ABOUT ME

I am the author of The Transcendentalists and the Death and Rebirth of Western Philosophical Religion,  Part 1, Ancient Philosophy as a Religious Way of Life.

I am working on Part 2 and my planned title  is The Transcendentalists and the Death and Rebirth of Western Philosophical Religion, Part 2 The Triumph and Ongoing Retreat of Abrahamic Dogmatism

I am an independent researcher with a lifetime of frontline religious experience: as a PK – preacher’s kid -- growing up in Lexington, Kentucky; in my Christian-Jewish interfaith marriage; in my leadership roles at the First Unitarian Universalist Society in West Newton Massachusetts founded in 1848 by, among others, Horace Mann (often described as the father of American public education) and Nathaniel Allen who before  the Civil War were on the cutting-edge of Transcendentalist  educational thinking from their radical interracial coed  West Newton schools; in my many years of pro bono legal work for the founders of the Organization of Pakistani American Entrepreneurs, one of whom once affectionately referred to me as his Sufi brother; and in my 60 plus summers spent in Northern Michigan at the  Bay View Chautuaqua founded in 1875 where I serve on the American Experience Committee that brings noted American historians to Bay View each summer. The four Pillars of Bay View’s summer programming are Religion, Performing Arts, Education and Recreation

I serve on the Board of Directors of the Newton Cultural Alliance which recently renovated the historic Nathaniel Allen House in West Newton, MA, to serve as a cultural and performing arts center.

I am the saxophonist in two benefit rock bands, White Collar Crime and King Arthur’s Court.

I have practiced law in the Boston area for over 40 years.

I received my bachelor’s degree, Phi Beta Kappa and with the highest distinction from Northwestern University in 1973, and , in 1978, I graduated, cum laude, from Harvard Law School.
